Building owner evicts snake-handling LaFollette pastor

(WBIR-LaFollette) A LaFollette pastor will have to find a new place to worship after the building owner kicked him and his snake-handling worshipers out of the church. 10News spoke with the building owner, Clyde Daugherty, who said he built the church in August, 1994. Daugherty said he rented the building to Hamblin for $267 a month, but decided to no longer allow serpent handling in the church. “Too many people were getting hurt and dying, and that’s a proven fact,” said Daugherty. “He was focused too much on the wrong things, like attention from the media and the t.v. show, … Continue reading Building owner evicts snake-handling LaFollette pastor

Presbyterians abandon Scriptures, approve same-sex ‘marriage’ in churches

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) will allow its pastors to preside at same-sex weddings, WBIR reports. In two overwhelming votes, the nation’s sixth-largest protestant denomination approved the practice in the 19 states where same-sex marriage is legal and approved presbytery-by-presbytery decisions to change the definition of marriage from a man and a woman to two people. In 2011, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) approved ordaining clergy with same-sex partners. Since then, 428 of the denomination’s more than 10,000 churches have left for other more conservative denominations or have dissolved. The church now has about 1.8 million members. It’s unclear whether the Presbytery … Continue reading Presbyterians abandon Scriptures, approve same-sex ‘marriage’ in churches

Judge Dismisses Atheist Lawsuit Challenging Church, Clergy Tax Exemptions

A federal judge in Kentucky has dismissed a lawsuit filed by three atheist organizations that challenged tax provisions for churches and members of the clergy. United States District Judge William O. Bertlesman, appointed by then-President Jimmy Carter, threw out the suit lodged by American Atheists, Atheists of Northern Indiana and Atheist Archives of Kentucky, declaring that they had no standing in the matter. The groups had asserted that current tax law, which exempts churches from requesting tax exempt status, filing an annual Form 990 or paying income tax withholding and FICA taxes, among other benefits, is unconstitutional. “Religious organizations and … Continue reading Judge Dismisses Atheist Lawsuit Challenging Church, Clergy Tax Exemptions

Being black and being gay are not the same thing | Fox News

By Maina Mwaura Published May 10, 2014 FoxNews.com Much is being made of HGTV’s decision to cancel a previously announced new series, “Flip it Forward,” because its stars, twin brothers David and Jason Benham, had expressed their faith-based, pro-life values and belief that marriage should be between one man and one woman.
