A judge on Friday ordered a Texas hospital to remove life support for a pregnant, brain-dead woman. Judge R. H. Wallace Jr. issued the ruling in the case of Marlise Munoz. John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth has been keeping Munoz on life support against her family’s wishes. The judge gave the hospital until 5 p.m. CST Monday to remove life support. The hospital said it was following a state law prohibiting withdrawal of treatment from a pregnant patient. Texas Hospital Being Pressured to Take Pregnant Woman Off Life Support

A hospital in Texas is being pressured to take a brain dead woman off life support. She is 20 weeks pregnant. Marlise Munoz, 33, has been on a ventilator since November. Doctors believe Munoz suffered a blood clot in her lung. Munoz’ husband Erick and her parents both want the mother removed from life support, saying that she would not wish to be kept alive by machines. Pregnant Texas woman won’t be allowed off life support

Marlise Munoz of Crowley, Texas, who died Nov. 26 after likely suffering a pulmonary embolism, has been on a ventilator since, against her and her family’s wishes. Marlise was 14 weeks pregnant when her parents say she was declared brain-dead. The uncle of a 13-year-old Northern California girl declared brain dead by a judge today says he’s hoping for a Christmas Eve miracle. Jahi McMath’s family says she bled profusely and went into cardiac arrest following a tonsillectomy. They’ve been fighting to prevent Children’s Hospital in Oakland from taking her off life support.
