HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher wondered why the way women are treated in the Muslim world isn’t more of a cause for feminists during an interview with author and activist Gloria Steinem on Friday, Breitbart reports.
Maher asked, “Why aren’t the way women are treated in the Muslim world considered more of a feminist cause?” Steinem responded that it is a feminist cause, and that women in the Muslim world consider their treatment a feminist cause.
After she added, “All monotheism is a problem.” Maher responded, “Yes, but not quite as much.” Steinem then said that the problem is “Islam being attached to the government.” And all theocracies are a problem.
(Editor’s note: Adherence to sharia law promotes the enslaving of women. Period. Anyone truly practicing Islam will support sharia. In contrast, Christianity promotes the equal treatment of all people, men and women, Christian, Jew, Muslim, whomever. We are all created in God’s image, and thus all have worth. Jesus died and rose again to free us from our sins; the gift of grace is offered to all. God is holy. God is love.)
