Steeple removed from First Baptist Church

The steeple atop First Baptist Church in midtown Jackson, Tenn., was taken down, Thursday, WBBJ TV reports. Church leaders said it was due to a safety concern.

Leaders at First Baptist said the steeple, which has been on top of the building for 30 years, recently began leaning. An inspection by construction engineers found its base was deteriorating.

Church officials said they do not know how long it will take to make the repairs. However, they do plan to put the steeple back up.
