Dozens gather to support Kim Davis, county clerk in Ky. who refuses to issue marriage licenses

Casey County Clerk Casey Davis, who recently embarked on a bicycle ride from Pikeville to Paducah, made a stop at the Rowan County Courthouse on Friday morning to show his support for Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, who is still refusing to issue marriage licenses despite a federal court ruling, The Morehead News reports.

Dozens of people showed up Friday morning at the courthouse from both sides of the marriage argument to express their beliefs.

“There’s a war going on in this country, and it’s a war against Christianity,” Casey said as crowds on both sides chanted, sang, and even exchanged words at times.

Casey said that this issue could be easily resolved if Gov. Steve Beshear would allow the General Assembly to convene in a special session and pass legislation that would change the way marriage licenses are issued.

Casey said that he and Kim have no hatred for gay individuals or marriage equality supporters. But he said he can’t let the authority of man supersede the authority of God or the authority of nature.
