Bethel World Outreach, one of Nashville’s largest megachurches, is seeking a special exception to allow for a 36,000-square-foot, three-story office building on its campus, the Tennessean reports.
“It’s going to be an enormous building that doesn’t fit the scale or character of Granny White Pike,” said neighbor David McGowan, adding that there are no three-story commercial buildings on Granny White Pike north of Old Hickory Boulevard.
Every Nation Ministries, an umbrella group of more than 1,000 worldwide churches, including Bethel, plans to buy from the church 5 acres on which sits a small house Bethel uses as offices. Every Nation leases office space at the Brentwood Highlands building across Old Hickory Boulevard from the Target shopping center near Interstate 65.
On Thursday, the Metro Board of Zoning Appeals will hear Bethel’s request for the exception to allow use of the residential site for the office building. The proposal also calls for 495 parking spaces. Bethel and Every Nation intend to share parking. More than 100 people would work at the office building.
