Candice McQueen to be named new Tennessee education commissioner

Lipscomb University Senior Vice President Candice McQueen will be named Tennessee’s new education commissioner, according to multiple sources familiar with Gov. Bill Haslam’s selection for the closely watched cabinet position, the Tennessean reports.

Haslam is set to have a press conference at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, when he is expected to name McQueen, who has led Lipscomb’s College of Education, his new education chief.

McQueen, who has close ties with the Haslam administration, will replace lighting-rod Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman, who announced last month plans to leave his post in January to return to the private sector.
