Below is a copy of a Facebook post by Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis ministry. Ken makes a great point about the Bible. The Bible is the history of mankind; to call it only a theological book is to miss the whole point of Christianity. Bill O’Reilly does not understand the Bible.
Here is Ken’s post:
While I was on the treadmill last night (exercising) and watching TV (to take away the pain ), just before 9pm I turned over the Fox News to see if there were any new headlines. I happened to catch the last bit of the Bill O’Reilly program. He was reading through emails. He read “Bill, the Bible is the ultimate history book.” Then Bill O’Reilly replied, “It’s not a history book…its a theological book.”
Therein lies one of the major reasons Bill O’Reilly doesn’t understand Christianity. If the theology of the Bible is not founded in real history, then the meaning can be totally subjective.
The doctrine of Marriage is based in the history in Genesis–the very history Jesus quoted from in Matthew 19 to give the basis and then meaning of marriage–one man for one woman–the first marriage being a real man Adam and a real woman Eve.
The doctrine of sin is founded in the history of a real Adam and a real tree and a real fruit and a real historical event of a real rebellion–the entrance of sin that lead to real death (the same death that all of us including Bill O’Reilly will succumb to if the Lord does not return first).
The Bible IS a book of history–it’s a book of historical science. That’s why I teach thousands of kids each year to say “The Bible is the history book of the universe.’
Bill O’Reilly does accept various aspects of Christian morality–but without a foundation in an absolute authority of real history, such morality is just his opinion and subjective.
THE BIBLE IS A BOOK OF HISTORY BILL–THE ULTIMATE HISTORY BOOK–THE IN FALLIBLE INERRANT HISTORY BOOK–the absolute authority of the Word of God.
